Disability Laws and Education
Very few people can simplify the complexities of disability laws and education and make it so easy to understand. This is a conversation with MAWVOICE#4, who speaks in her dual-role as (Administrator- Lawyer) and INVOLVED PARENT, and explains disability law in a very light and informative manner.
MAWVOICE#4 is a brilliant mother of two, Administrator and Attorney for an online school district, where she advises schools on Compliance and issues related to Special Education. She uses her knowledge of the law to help parents understand Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, which is an American legislation that guarantees certain rights to people with disabilities. It was one of the first US federal civil rights laws offering protection for people with disabilities.
Her presentation was very helpful to a mother who happened to sit in on this audio recording, and who herself has a son who receives disability support from his school, under Section 504. This section of her discussions also explains what steps her school district is using to provide ongoing services to students who are impacted by Covid-19.
